The add on is to build maps using an isometric position instead of a top down view like most maps.

However, there is another option, which will be the next post after this. as i said before, you will generally use this program to build singe room displays when topography can’t be represented with a top down display. This is not the optimum way to build a gaming map for an entire floor. when building rooms like this, one has to play with how they display a bit, and it can be quite time consuming. you will notice that when a room is built as a single unit, the walls closer to the viewer draw at a shorter height, and the door symbol actually stands higher than the displayed wall. Trying to add a second image to this post, i took that room, and added a second room and built a connecting corridor adding door symbols to the connection points. the room itself is drawn with one basic tool that picks the wall and floor textures, a small raised area with a second set of textures, and the pool is a third ‘box’ built at a negative height, creating a hole, and the textures to display the water bottom suggesting a pool. The image above shows the improper display of the water texture, the one below shows the correct display. i did find one that does display right, however and was able to use it for this tutorial. the problem is that for some reason, in perspective pro, the texture set that they suggested using does not display as its supposed to on my computer (this has been true of three seperate computers i have tried it on over the years, and two completely seperate installs of the program. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand. There is a lesson that involved adding a small raided area and a pool.

This specific post is full of great/awesome map-making tips, but you might want to poke around the rest of the Cartographer's Guild website for even more great ideas. Don't have Photoshop? Try GIMP.which really deserves it's own entry on Frugal GM. There are a few other tips scattered about, but the focus is mostly on maps and mostly on using computer programs like Photoshop.

This week's Free GM Resource is a great.probably awesome, collection of useful tips for creating your own maps. Getting something handed to you usually doesn't help improve your own GM skills, it just helps you prep quickly and/or easily. I know that here I'm quick to point out where you can get some free maps or awesome downloads, which can be great if you are in need of something fast, but sometimes you just want to improve your own creation skills as a GM. This week is a holiday week and I hope that you get some time off to be able to either game or prep for a game, possibly both.
